March 4, 2008
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to announce the annual celebration of National Nurses Week at the UCSD Medical Center. As a member of the UCSD Medical Center community, we want to make sure you have the dates marked on your calendars. Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends May 12th, on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing as a modern profession.
Event: National Nurses Week, UCSD Medical Center
Date: May 6-12, 2008
Location: UCSD Medical Center Hillcrest, San Diego, CA
UCSD Medical Center Thornton Hospital, La Jolla, CA
As you know, at the UCSD Medical Center our nurses work to deliver excellence in patient care, in quality and safety, on a daily basis. Nurses Week gives us an opportunity to recognize their dedication through a number of activities including educational seminars, celebratory meals, and prize-filled activities. All events during Nurses Week culminate with the Nursing Excellence Award Ceremony designed to honor a "Nurse of the Year" as well as to present a number of scholarship awards. Nurses Week is also a unique opportunity to promote a positive, realistic image of nurses and the nursing profession, to create awareness about nursing at the UCSD Medical Center, and to further engage the San Diego community.
In honor of the largest workforce in our hospital, I hope you will take a moment to support your nurses. Because most of the Nurses Week activities are free of charge to all attendees and their families, we rely heavily on the generosity of donors and volunteers in the community to produce this week-long affair.
Thank you for your valuable support.
Sincerely,
Margarita Baggett, R.N., M.S.N.
